Product Overview What is anthaVPN? anthaVPN is a fully configurable, broadly interoperable, Virtual Private Network (VPN) software client that connects to VPN gateways over a wired or wireless connection. With anthaVPN, you can exchange e-mail, use enterprise applications, and access work force information or enterprise resource planning data while minimizing the risk of interception or unauthorized use while it travels over the Internet. Why was anthaVPN developed? VPN's are rapidly becoming the standard for secure remote access by mobile workers connecting to their corporate intranets. anthaVPN was developed to enable a range of handheld devices to connect securely to leading VPN gateways that support the IPSec security standard. The client bridges the gap between IP-enabled handheld devices used for enterprise computing and VPN infrastructures. How does anthaVPN enable a wireless connection to the corporate VPN? anthaVPN resides on the wireless device and creates a secure tunnel between the device and the corporate intranet. What makes anthaVPN so efficient? anthaVPN is secured by Certicom and incorporates their efficient implementations of the algorithms and protocols used by the client. anthaVPN has been designed specifically for wireless and mobile devices constrained by limited processing power and memory. It incorporates Certicom's 163-bit Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) algorithm which provides a strength level equivalent to 1024-bit Diffie-Hellman. ECC provides a high level of security with much smaller key sizes and lower computational requirements, resulting in faster IKE negotiation (ECDH) and digital signatures (ECDSA) where ECC is enabled on the VPN gateway. Does anthaVPN support other IKE algorithms besides 163-bit ECDH? Yes, the client supports 768-bit and 1024-bit Diffie-Hellman algorithms for interoperability with the legacy base of enterprise VPN products. Interoperability What platforms does anthaVPN run on? Currently, the client runs on Palm OS® version 3.5 to 4.1, with limited support for Palm OS 5.0. For Windows Mobile versions, anthaVPN is compatible with Pocket PC 2002 and Pocket PC 2003. anthaVPN has been designed to support a wide range of mobile devices. Specific models have been tested and the list of tested devices continues to grow as new models and versions are introduced by the manufacturers. Which devices have been tested with anthaVPN? Additional platforms will be supported in the future based on market demand and feasibility. What VPN gateways does anthaVPN interoperate with? anthaVPN interoperates with a wide range of leading VPN gateways, listed under gateway support.Please consult the server guide included on the software client for full details on gateway compatibility. What wireless connectivity options are available for anthaVPN? anthaVPN has been tested with a wide number of wireline modems and with a number of wireless connectivity devices running over IP-based services. In theory, the client works independently of the connectivity method between handheld devices and the VPN network. Check the wireles connectivity FAQ for the current list. Are changes needed in the gateway in order to support anthaVPN? Many VPN gateways require simple configuration changes be performed by the VPN administrator before the client can connect. The anthaVPN documentation includes detailed server configuration guides for each gateway, enabling administrators to easily incorporate anthaVPN users into the corporate VPN. Users should involve their VPN administrator in the process early on to ensure positive results. It is important to note that enterprises using Palm devices must set the security policy for either 768-bit DH, or 163-bit ECDH. This is due to the fact that the gateways time out because of the time required to generate Diffie-Hellman keys on the device. Do all gateways support Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman? The list of ECC supported gateways is growing. By partnering with Certicom, gateway vendors are adding ECDH support to their products. Cisco, Nortel and Intel have implemented ECDH support in their gateways, and several other vendors have added ECDH to their product roadmap. What third-party software do I need to use with anthaVPN? The client creates a secure connection between your handheld device and a VPN. To access data on the network, you need a Web browser, email client, etc. You can purchase and/or download these applications from many PDA related Web sites. Can I use anthaVPN with a different modem, or gateway, wireless device or modem than what is listed? anthaVPN has been designed for wide interoperability. While we encourage you to use different combinations of devices, we recommend the client be used with the particular gateways, devices and wireless connectivity options listed.
